1-Full form of NASA is The National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

2- It is an independent agency of the executive branch of the United States federal government.

3-NASA is responsible for the civilian space program as well as aeronautics and aerospace research.

4-President Dwight D. Eisenhower established NASA in 1958.

5-The National Aeronautics and Space Act was passed on July 29, 1958.

6- The new agency became operational on October 1, 1958.

7-NASA is supporting the International Space Station and is overseeing the development of the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, the Space Launch System and Commercial Crew vehicles.

8-NASA shares data with various national and international organizations such as from the Greenhouse Gases Observing Satellite.

9-NASA is also responsible for the Launch Services Program (LSP) which provides oversight of launch operations and countdown management for unmanned NASA launches.

10-A NASA seal was approved by President Eisenhower in 1959

11- A significant contributor to NASA’s entry into the Space Race with the Soviet Union was the technology from the German rocket program led by Wernher von Braun.

12- In December 1958, NASA gained control of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, a contractor facility operated by the California Institute of Technology.

13- To date, NASA has launched a total of 166 manned space missions on rockets, and thirteen X-15 rocket flights above the USAF definition of spaceflight altitude, 260,000 feet.

14-The Soviet Union (USSR) competed with its own single-pilot spacecraft, Vostok. They sent the first man in space, by launching cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin into a single Earth orbit aboard Vostok 1 in April 1961, one month before Shepard’s flight.

15-The first person to stand on the Moon was Neil Armstrong, who was followed by Buzz Aldrin, while Michael Collins orbited above

16-Skylab was the United States’ first and only independently built space station
