Chemistry One-Liners for various competitive examinations

chemistry

Thank You for landing the Chemistry section page.

Here are some important Chemistry one-liners for students competing for various exams

Watch some of the important Chemistry Bits below.

- The force of attraction that keeps the various atoms of a molecule together is called Chemical bond.

-Bond formed by the transfer(loss or gain) of electrons is called the electrovalent bond.

- A bond formed by the sharing of electron pairs between atoms is called the covalent bond.

-Three major types of Chemical bonds are there. They are Ionic, Covalent and Co-ordinate covalent(dative).

-Ionic bond was proposed by Kossel.

-Ionic bond is formed by the transfer of electrons between atoms.

-The bond formed between highly electropositive and highly electronegative elements is an ionic bond.

- The electrostatic force of attraction existing between oppositely charged ions is called the ionic bond.

- The ionic bond is always formed between a metal and a non-metal.

-The formation of a covalent bond was initially explained by Lewis.

- The number of electron pairs shared by an atom with others is called its covalency.

-The term Covalency was introduced by Langmuir.

- When two electron pairs are shared between two atoms, the bond formed is called a double covalent bond.

- If three electron pairs are shared between two atoms, the bond formed is called a triple covalent bond.

- A nonpolar covalent bond is formed in between similar atoms.

- A polar covalent bond is formed in between dissimilar atoms.

- Majority of covalent compounds are gases or volatile liquids or solids of low melting points.

- Generally covalent bond is weaker than an ionic bond.

- Covalent compounds are soluble in non-polar solvents like benzene, Chloroform etc and insoluble in polar solvents.

- Covalent compounds do not conduct electricity.

- Co-ordinate Covalent bond was proposed by Sidgewick.

-The atom that provides an electron pair is called donor and which receives it is called acceptor. Hence the bond is also called donor-acceptor bond.
